Dr. Okayli has been in practice as a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist since 1997.

Dr. Okayli graduated from King Faisal University School of Medicine in 1989. She completed three and a half years of residency training in Pathology/ Immunology at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, a prestigious tertiary care hospital.  During the program she published 2 papers in internationally recognized journals.

Dr. Okayli furthered her education in the United States in Case Western Reserve University Hospital (1992-1995) and University of Wisconsin Medical Center (1995-1997).

Dr. Okayli worked in research with Dr. Herbert Y. Meltzer , a world renowned psychiatrist and researcher at Case Western Reserve University Hospital. Their collaborative work in  the area of Chronic Mental Illness gave birth to “the most cited paper in psychiatry”.  The paper was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 1995 (Click for paper).  For the first time,   their work revealed that the drug Clozapine has an effect on mood regulation. Over the last 17 years, further research stemming from the findings of this study resulted in the FDA approval of the drug Clozapine for the treatment of recurrent suicidal behavior in patients with Schizophrenia or Schizo-affective Disorders. It was the first drug to be approved for suicide prevention.

Dr Okayli further completed her training at University of Wisconsin Medical Center. She graduated in 1997. She spent 6 months at the research department in the University of Arizona Health Center. She participated in a study about treatment of sexual side effects of psychiatric medications using the drug Remeron. The findings were published in the journal of Clinical Psychiatry.
